For those New to City Living

“Cities can be dangerous for birds, but also for those adjusting to city life. “Nest” is a project based around providing private, compact housing that not only facilitates interaction between inhabitants, but nature as well. The outer facade of the building is adorned with bird-boxes, dedicated to the Northern Mockingbird, a common songbird in the Americas. The building is oriented around a cross, which facilitates movement throughout the ground floor but also with neighboring buildings. The shape guides a series of cutouts that provides ambient light and ventilation throughout. The private quarters nested above the ground floor provide a safe space for the young and reckless.”

A building designed for cohabitation of two communities, intended to coerce interaction and increasing humanity’s concern for the environment. Created for the “Dwelling with Neighbors” project, which involved light collaboration with neighboring constructions to create an imaginary yet cooperative neighborhood.

Designed through aggregation of units with variable uses, creates a strong “cross” symbolism throughout the project.
Facade articulated with a variety of birdhouses just outside the bedrooms, creating an interesting bridge between humans and birds.
Circulation is primarily exterior, with access to upper floors separate from the more public first floor.
Designed as so upstairs inhabitants may interact with one another due to their proximity.
