Housing for artists looking to develop new connections, integrated with the neighboring Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond, VA.
The hallway becomes the driver of community in this project, as the central corridor becomes the site for collaborative events and spontaneous creativity.
The irregular shape of the project is due to the undulating aggregation of housing units.
The different units in the project all contain some method of manipulating privacy through the use of curtains. This creates options for customization, letting people choose how they wish to use and share their space. Units are designed so creative space can exist anywhere.

Lofted unit section & plan
The goal with manipulating the circulation was to make sure no two spaces felt the same. Encouraging spontaneous interaction is vital to helping sustain the creative mind.
Second Floor Plan, highlighting the aggregation method and undulating movement. If all the curtains were to be open, there would be complete transparency throughout the building from north to south.
Model consisting of only supporting walls, etched floorplans not shown
Designed through the aggregation of housing units with modular capabilities.
